Dr. Mehwish Shahid is a licensed psychologist who specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders and OCD in children, adolescents, and young adults. She utilizes evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Dr. Shahid also teaches parents how they can best support children with a variety of mental health concerns, such as anxiety disorders, ADHD, OCD, and behavioral challenges. Additionally, Dr. Shahid has a background in school psychology, which allows her to help parents better understand and navigate the educational supports and accommodations provided to students via 504 and special education services within the public school system.
Dr. Shahid received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University at Albany, SUNY. She went on to attend the University of Rhode Island, where she obtained her master’s degree in School Psychology and her doctoral degree in Psychology. Dr. Shahid’s doctoral training included pratica in school districts across Rhode Island and Connecticut, where she received training in providing counseling to children and adolescents with a variety of needs and conducting cognitive, academic, and behavioral assessments for special education evaluations. Dr. Shahid also completed her predoctoral internship at the Bastrop Independent School District in Bastrop, Texas. Further, Dr. Shahid also completed assessment practica in private practice settings, where she received training in conducting comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations of children, teens, and young adults to assess executive functioning, learning, and social/emotional difficulties. Upon completing her doctoral training, Dr. Shahid completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Austin Anxiety and OCD Specialists, where she received specialized training in the treatment of childhood anxiety and OCD. She is a member of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, and the International OCD Foundation.
