Melissa Mercedes Buttner, PhD

Dr. Melissa Buttner is a licensed psychologist with training in evidence-based treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for depression, anxiety, trauma, and chronic pain in adults. Dr. Buttner is published in the area of women’s health, with an emphasis on reproductive-related mood disorders, trauma, and chronic pain. Dr. Buttner also teaches yoga and meditation classes in the West Los Angeles community.
During her pre- and postgraduate training, which included completion of an APA-accredited internship at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, WA, Dr. Buttner accrued a wide range of experiences providing evidence-based treatments to diverse populations in outpatient clinics, inpatient facilities, and major medical centers. Dr. Buttner provided cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based therapies to treat a variety of psychological issues such as depression, anxiety, sexual trauma, PTSD, and chronic health conditions. Additionally, she has worked as a part of an interdisciplinary team with attending physicians, residents, fellows, social workers, and therapists in intensive and acute care in inpatient and outpatient settings. Her training in outpatient settings has been informed by experience in a Women’s Wellness and Counseling Service where she provided ACT, CBT, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and relaxation techniques to perinatal women presenting with reproductive-related mood disorders, chronic pain, eating disorders, and trauma.
